Biography
Harris is a full service law firm and the largest law firm in Norway that has its head office located outside the capital. The firm’s location, Bergen, Norway’s second largest city, places the firm at the heart of Norway’s most important industries – oil, gas, fish and shipping – as well as thriving land based industries and service businesses.
Our lawyers advice and assist corporations as well as public authorities and entities in Western Norway and elsewhere in Norway. Participating in the strong growth of the Norwegian economy and Western Norway in particular Harris has enjoyed the trust of our clients and expanded not only in size but also in expertise; gaining in depth knowledge of our clients needs and the relevant legal issues.
While the firm is proud of its history, turning 100 years in 2024, Harris is firmly looking forward in order to serve our clients ever more efficiently. Our motto – in Norwegian “Rett Retning”, literally “Right/ correct/ law Direction”, is more than playing with the word “rett” – it refers to our commitment to both render correct legal advice/ services, and to advice as to what may be the smart choice(s) when options exist. As clients and the situations differ, we listen, analyse and advice.
Sometimes litigation/ arbitration is inevitable. Our lawyers have extensive experience from arguing cases before all levels of the Norwegian legal system as well as the EFTA Court. Eight of our lawyers are qualified as Supreme Court lawyers (H), which is a title earned when a lawyer has argued two or more cases before the Supreme Court showing the legal and oratorial skills demanded from a lawyer pleading before the Court. (Whether the case is won or lost is irrelevant.) Our lawyers have also done service as arbitrator, as legal expert for the ICC Court of Commerce, and as counsel for state agencies.
